Dr. Gary Smit has been an educator for 34 years.  He has taught and been an elementary school principal.  From 1979-1983, he served as the Superintendent for Genoa City, Wisconsin.  For eleven years, he was Superintendent of South Berwyn School District 100.  Following the 2003-2004 school year, Dr. Smit retired from Lombard School District 44 after serving as its Superintendent since 1994.

Since 1997, Dr. Smit has been working within his own school district and community to make sure character counts.  For Character is designed from a practical point of view to be of support to others on the character education journey.
